Revenge of The Sith - The Review

So, the wait was finally over. The tickets were bought nearly a week earlier. I eagerly wait for this day. As I walked into the cinema with a friend (who is not really fanatic but she knows the basics enough for her to understand the whole series and discussed it with me), I cant stop gushing that I am so nervous of watching this movie. I am scared that I'll be frustrated with the whole story. But at the end of the day, as any fan would want, I just want to know what happen.

As the sound of the 20th century trademark opening, and the infamous scroll message appears with the Imperial March music, my adrenaline started rushing and my heart pounded so heart. We have been eagerly waiting for this. The conclusion. Or the beginning.

If people expect ROTS to be an artful movie, it is not. All the sound effects and other fx were overwhelming. It was exaggarated, sometimes.. all that kung-fu like fighting scenes, and the advanced technology..However, to me, that should not be the focus of this movie. The movie should be focused on the "emotions" and "character". Anakin transition to the Dark Lord was too fast. He is the most powerful and yet, he falters easily. To me, they should focus on his conflict between the good side and the dark side. How the dark side consumed him. How he become heartless and evil.

However, any fan would be sad... seeing anakin, someone who is still searching for himself, falls down easily to the dark side. Seeing how a precious relationship between a mentor and pupil, brother to brother destroyed because of wanting something that you are not supposed to have.

As a fan, i was utterly frustrated with the storyline as it was "rushed". To me, 2 1/2 hours simply not enough. However, it was overwhelming to see the conclusion or the beginning.. whatever. And it was nice to see all the new characters introduced which reminds u of Ep 4 - 6. Seeing Leia and Luke as babies, seeing Uncle Owen at Tatooine, seeing Chewbacca!

Overall, of course it cant beat the originals... but as a fan, it was so excited to know how Darth Vader was made. I cried loads! And i think no one will ever forget the sound of Vader's first breath. It was a classic!!!

Anyway, to those of you who love Star Wars... you shouldnt miss it. Please go and experience it. As for those who doesnt care about Star Wars... just bear with us for awhile. The moment will pass heheehhehehehhehe

“Sebab bahasa mereka bahasa antarabangsa. Bahasa universal.”
“So?”
Aliza diam kerana cuba memikirkan maksud sebenar Rizmal.
Memahami kebingungan di hati Aliza, Rizmal tersenyum.
“Biarlah dia jadi bahasa antarabangsa pun,” Rizmal menyambung. “Kita baca puisi bukannya sebab taraf dia sebagai bahasa antarabangsa. Dan kalau dia jadi bahasa antarabangsa sekali pun, dia sekadar alat komunikasi. Tapi bila bercakap tentang puisi, kita bercakap tentang kaedah komunikasi, bukan alat.”

Kalau silap jgn marah - tapi komen.
Betul ke bahasa Melayu ni jiwang? Cuba lihat pantun2 Melayu klasik ni:

Pohon mengkudu tumbuhnya rapat
Rapat lagi pohon jati
Kawan seribu mudah didapat
Sahabat setia payah dicari

Anak todak di dalam buyung
Ditangkap orang di Laut China
Kalau tidak dipecahkan ruyung
Manakan dapat sagunya

Nasi lemak buah bidara
Sayang selasih hamba lurutkan
Buang emak buang saudara
Kerana kasih hamba turutkan

Jiwang? Di mana letak jiwangnya? Mungkin bukan pada pantun? Mungkin pada dialog si penglipur lara? Atau pada puisi? Atau pada apa ya?
Jadi bagaimana kalau ia sememangnya jiwang?

Cuba lihat senikata lagu Melayu:
Wajahmu
Seindah serinya pelangi nan indah
Seharum mawar putih sedang berkembang

Wajahmu
Mengapa sering terbayang di mataku
Sehingga sering terbawa ke dalam mimpiku

Kemudian senikata lagu Inggeris:
Tonight is very clear
as we're both lying here
there's so many things I wanna say
I will always love you
I would never leave you alone

Berbedakah status jiwangnya? Bagaimana pula dgn bahasa novel?
Fariss membelek beberapa muka surat dokumen di tangannya. Seketika dia mengerling Ratna sambil tersenyum. Muncung Ratna masih lagi panjang.
"Saya tak puas hati ni..."
Muka Ratna berkerut mendengar kata2 itu. Setahunya dia sudah memeriksa berkali-kali dokumen itu. Lengkap. Tidak ada cacat-celanya.
(petikan dpd: Asmara Yang Pertama - Nass Alina Noah)

Novel Inggeris pula:
There was something on her mind, Jack realized, something troubling her, and whatever it was, the incident with the Sethmeyers seemed only to have made it worse. He quelled an urge to run upstairs, grab her listless shoulders, and shake an explanation out of her. She'd tell him about it in her own good time.
"Maybe she's still upset about last night," Jack said lamely. "We'll just have to see how she shapes up over the next few days."
(petikan dpd: Judgement Day - Nick Sharman)

Di mana jiwangnya? Mungkin di sini?
"Seri pernah menyalahkan takdir Tuhan.

(petikan dpd: Nota Luka III - Sabariah Araur)

Cuba lihat perbedaannya. Semasa translate tu, cuba buat satu perkara ni - hasilkan translasi Inggeris yang sejiwang mungkin - kalau pun tak lebih jiwang dpd bahasa Melayu tadi, setaraf jiwangnya pun jadilah! Boleh ke ha? Entah...cubalah...

What Am I Doing Awake?

It's 4.18 bloody am!! I am watching some stewpede movies on TV with Steven Seagal in it. Argh!! I am suppose to be working on some proposal papers but I found myself surfing the akademi fantasia site instead.... hmmm... I think if not for M. Nasir being in the show, I have lost interest in this programme. I watched American Idol and that Bo Brice is a definite hottie!! I felt 21 again!! Those days of going to Skid Row's, Extreme's GnR's, Def Leppard's and loads more's concerts!! And you want to compare the 20 AF3 finalists with the likes of Bo Brice? His bum would be able sing better, I think!!
Hahahahaha... I have just switched the TV to @15, Ujibakat AF3 is on.. some goon is singing "Sway"... Michael Buble (or even Kaer, for that matter) will die of puking!!!
Eh, I just read this from my collections, for you lot:

Lima cara pilih sahabat

Malam Ini Bersama Shebby... kalau Kept. Arrogance, Suckers, Cowards

They are all around us. Heck! Sometimes we are them!!! We just do not realise it.

Respect? Well... respect or menyampah? Takut? Fear? Of what? Of insinuation? Of being left alone or left out because somebody else is - you thought - very influential?

No matter how we tried to show (or pretend - that's the right word) as if we respect someone, others would always realise that it's actually kipas out of fear instead. Kipas and respect do not jive, and they are clearly distinct. And they are right, of course!

How do you know whether somebody is respected because of his/her person or because of his/her position? I don't know... but I have a way of testing it and I have been using this technic for almost five years now. So far it hasn't let me down.

But then again, it's just my own technic... and I am not a prominent person. No matter whether my methods and technics work or not, they are not worth a reference. Come to think of it... so are my ideas and whatever it is I put forward to.... anytaime... anywhere... including here.

Life is interesting!

The Signs in Job Interviews

How do you know whether the job interview you attended will be positive?

You don't know really. Nobody does. In fact, even the interviewers would not know it.

BUT, you may be able to know whether or not the job interview you attended will be negative. There are some signs to indicate that. Please be warned though, that these are only my perception. They might not be absolutely applicable all the time.
  1. There is no subsequent interviews for the positon, and the interviewers did not discuss your expected salary
  2. The interviewers (during the first or the only interview), did not ask for copies of your certificates although you have not submitted any copies to them before
  3. The interviewers did not ask you of your earliest availability to start work

There are of course other signs, but just watch out for those three signs above. Remember that they are only my perception. But somehow I know that if you experienced any of them before, the possibility is that you were not offered any job at that company.

27 Real World Truths and Chuckles

"In what sense has Maria Shriver ever lived in the real world?" my husband, Bill, asked me over breakfast. He held up a full-page magazine ad showing that Shriver has a book out called Ten Things I Wish I'd Known Before I Went Out Into the Real World."What?" I mumbled. I was nursing a deep scratch incurred while trying to toilet-train the cat. Bill shook the paper at me. "This, from the daughter of Eunice Kennedy Shriver and the wife of Arnold Schwarzenegger? Where's the real world in that?"I have not peeked into that book (too busy with the Band-Aids), but I did ask dozens of people from the actual real world what they wish they had known. Here's a sampling:

1. Never continue dating anyone who is rude to the waiter. --DAN HENRY
2. If only someone had told me the body I loathed in my 20s would be the body I wistfully longed for in my 30s! --CYNTHIA BOCOBOC

5. When buying a car, skip zippy and snazzy, and go directly to practical and running. --MARILYN PENLAND
6. A woman needs only two tools: WD-40 and duct tape. If it doesn't move and it should, use WD-40. If it moves and it shouldn't, use the tape. --PHYLLIS WINTER
7. The five most essential words for a healthy relationship: "I apologize" and "You are right." --TERRY DUKE
8. Pull over for the idiots and let them pass even when you're going pretty fast already. --MIKE SOCHACKI

Errrr......

Let's learn elvish

We say this in Elvish

Legolas: Boe a hyn neled herain dan caer menig.
Aragorn: Si, beriathar hyn ammaeg na ned Edoras.
Legolas: Aragorn, nedin dagor hen ú-'erir ortheri. Natha daged dhaer.

And this is the meaning in English

Legolas: 'And they should be... three hundred against ten thousand.' [lit. 'It is necessary to them: [there are] 300 [of us], against 10,000 [of them]'
aragorn: 'They have more hope of defending themselves here than at Edoras.' [lit. 'Here they-will-defend them[-selves] sharper than at Edoras.']
Legolas: 'They cannot win this fight. They are all going to die!' [lit. Aragorn, in the battle this [they] not can to-win. [It] will be slaying great.]

Job Hunt

Current statistic shows that over 80,000 graduates are currently unemployed in Malaysia (yes... this figure is unbelievable!). In June this year, Danaharta will probably dissolve. I'm not sure how many employees are there in Danaharta right now, but I would hazard a guess of about 1,000 employees - and all of them - by June - will be flooding the labour market (particularly KL and Klang Valley). There may be other business sectors and industry whose employees are either retrenched or accepted VSS offers. WE might be one of those industries.

The bottom line is, if you want to search for another job, the best chances are always when there are less competition. If you're an employer looking for a potential employee, and you are given two choices - one with a resume of Danaharta; and the other with a resume of...well....our internationally famous company - who would you choose?

You know what I meant?

How Do You Know That You Love Someone?

I came across this in one of the blogs:

When you really love a person, you cannot find a reason why you love him. You only know that no matter when and where, good mood or bad mood, you will wish to have this person be with you. Real love is when two people can go through the toughest problems without asking for promises orlisting criterias. In a relationship, you have to put in effort and give in at times, not always be on thereceiving end. Being away from each other is a type of test, If the relationship isn't strong, then youcan only admit defeat.

It was from www.hikaru.blogdrive.com kalau tak silap. I felt so... so.... apa ek..? So touched gamaknya with this phrase that I actually started to think about relationship - but this time using the above phrase as the test instrument, particularly the phrase I marked in red.

Those of you who are currently in a relationship with somebody might want to try this test. Especially if you're married to that person. It's good to share your feelings, I guess.......

What say you? Probably you might disagree with the statement.

Shoot!

Aspirasi

Puisi ni diambil dari koleksi peribadi seorang teman. Sekiranya kau membaca ni, kau samanlah aku...! Berani? Kalau tak berani contact aku cepat!!!

Kalian boleh teka siapa pengarangnya? Style dia tak lari biasanya. Perhatikan...

Perlukah jasad disentuh jejari
Untuk mengenal hati dan budi
Perahu nelayan dilepas tali
Masin laut hendak diuji?

Mungkin sekadar bertukar bicara
Di alam maya yang tanpa rupa
Sekadar wajah yang dibayangi kata
Siratan makna sekadar diteka

Pastinya hasrat tidakkan sampai
Impian masih sekadar digapai
Selangkah lagi tak mungkin dicapai
Harus disandung onak dan denai

Tegar semangatku masih perkasa
Tersandung kaki melangkah juga
Biar berkirai bebat bahtera
Tidakkan hanyut tanpa samudera

Andai takdir menentukan
Samudera bertandang dijemput taufan
Bahtera hanyut ditelan lautan
Di pantai melandai tersungkurlah nelayan

Hanya pada ketika itu
Baru berakhirnya langkahku

Kala bintang-bintang menyinar seri
Ufuk timur di sebalik kejora bersembunyi?

Seandai engkau bisa nampak dan mengerti
Antara ikrar dan sabda dari naluri
Yang terukir di ambang penglihatanmu kini
Ada azimat yang berkalimat penuh erti
Naluri datang asalnya penuh ikhlas dan murni
Gegar dan gempita akibatnya bagi setiap hati

Pada ikrar sabda kata-kata
Ada terselit jutaan rahsia
Di celahan abjad dan huruf yang melata
Ada tersimpan maknanya
Maka terokailah

(By the way, citer UKDA ni untuk "si dia tu" ke???)

Maaf sekali lagi kerana menyiarkan puisimu.....

p/s: contactlah aku, plastik!!!!!!

Aku, Kau Dan Dia

Puisi ni ditulis oleh seorang teman bertahun dulu. Aku tertarik sungguh dengan puisi ni. Suka banget!

Cuba imaginasikan....

Gelisah yang melanda hati ini
Membuat aku jadi tak tentu
Mana mungkin dapat kupaksa diri
Menyintai dan menyayangimu
Sedangkan kau tahu
Di hati ini masih ada dia

Telah kucuba melukis wajahmu
Mewarnai jiwaku yang sepi
Namun aku tak berdaya
Gambaran wajahnya jua yang menjelma
Membelai jiwa melayani masa
Mendamaikan syahdu

Kau yang menyayangi
Dia yang kusayangi
Kau yang merinduiku
Dia yang sering kurindu
Salahkah aku kerana tidak menyintai
Salahkah aku kerana mengingati

Maafkan aku wahai teman
Tidak terniat aku melukai hatimu
Ku harap agar kau mengerti
Betapa dia yang ku tunggu
Kerana rinduku
Hanya untuk dirinya

Maafkan aku…
Kau sahabatku…
Dia pilihan hatiku…

Childhood Doesn't Wait

I found this in the internet years ago. It really caught my attention, and I confess that I felt so touched that I almost shed tears. It's easy to say or write some words, but it's not easy to touch people's heart with them.

Let's see if you like it as much as I do... or even more...

I was sitting on a bench
while in a nearby mall,
When I noticed a young mother
with two children who were small.

The youngest one was whining,
"Pick me up," I heard him beg
but the mother's face grew angry
as the child clung to her leg.

"Don't hang on to me," she shouted
as she pushed his hands away,
I wish I'd had the courage
to go up to her and say...

"The time will come too quickly
when those little arms that tug,
Won't ask for you to hold them
or won't freely give a hug.

"The day will sneak up subtly
just as it did with me,
When you can't recall the last time
that your child sat on your knee.

"Like those sacred, pre-dawn feedings
when we cherished time alone
Our babies grow and leave behind
those special times we've known.

"So when your child comes to you
with a book that you can share,
Or asks that you would tuck him in
and help him say his prayer...

"When he comes to sit and chat
or would like to take a walk,
Before you answer that you can't
`cause there's no time to talk.

"Remember what all parents learn
so many times too late,
That years go by too quickly
and that childhood doesn't wait.

"Take every opportunity,
if one should slip away
Reach hard to get it back again,
don't wait another day."

I watched that mother walk away
her children followed near,
I hope she'll pick them up
before her chances disappear...

Mengurat Perempuan

Kenapa lelaki suka mengurat perempuan?

Taming Sari

After reading Da Vinci Code by Dan Brown, me and a friend started discussing about how creative these "omputih" writers where they can manipulate stories where sometimes, we as a reader feels as if we are reading the true fact! It can misleading of course. But the fact that it seems real, makes it more exciting to read the books.

So my friend & I were thinking are there any Malay novels that fictionised (is there such a word? ;-) heheehhe ) our history mcm puteri gunung ledang sumer tu... it would be interesting kan if we could come up with cerita pasal Taming Sari ker? It will be interesting!

Maybe the descendants of hang tuah? The anak cucu cicit.. if ada la...

hmmmm any takers???

Antara Kau Dan Dia - Najwa Aiman

As promised, I have finished reading the novel and my comments echo the ones I gave in my earlier posting (perhaps harsher!! Sorry). Let me give them in point form:
1. This novel is so full of confused people who do not know what they want in life (I guess they hang around together and are attracted to each other?).
2. Poems – too many to swallow. I was going to suggest giving them footnotes or cross references for appendices at the back. Ooppsss….
3. Tempo – okay in the beginning, very slow in the middle but towards the end it is rushing, as if the writer cannot wait to finish the book and get it done and over with.
4. Again, main characters’ background(s) not informed. I don’t know them except their relationships with one another.
5. Najwa Aiman should try to explore usage of other adjectives then those very excessively used… he/she has made boring repetitions and as if the feelings are all the same and described similarly, among the characters.
6. Coincidences – too many, especially the “Joyce” story – created to open an avenue to enable Rizmal being bashed up by the alongs? Hmmmm… nice try….
7. Does Ilyana have to be pregnant? Hello? If the couple actually does sleep together, quite a lot, have they not thought of possibility of a baby? Hello!!! It’s the 21st century, heard of condoms? Or, is Ilyana purposely trapping Rizmal and then punish him? Something does not click here!
8. The “use” of Aliza to help in tracing Rizmal for Ilyana and Idayu is not very effective. It is so……………… “drama Melayu”. Again, this is a sign of “rushing”. Aliza’s function in the novel is unclear until that part where she interrupted the sisters’ conversation…. I was thinking, “So, this is what she’s here for”. And the part that Aliza was searching for jobs is quite unlikely as all TESL, I repeat ALL!!, graduates are immediately offered a teaching job by Kementerian Pelajaran (even during recession time)and it didn't say that Aliza declined the offer. Research, Najwa Aiman, research!!
9. Does Rizmal really have no close friends to share his problems/ thoughts? This is a very unlikely male characteristic, but then again, I do not know too many males.
10. Addressing a Malay female boss as “Miss” is highly unlikely. They are called “Puan”, “Cik” or “Kak” or simply by their first names.

In general I give this novel 2.5 stars out of 5. I was not drawn to empathy with anybody and at no single point did I actually feel any pain/happiness/anger. To me this is just a melancholic novel. Sad but true, I guess. Najwa Aiman has done better.
However, I am looking forrward to reading Najwa Aiman's next novel.

Untuk Kau Dan Aku (UKDA) and Antara Kau Dan Dia (AKDD) by Najwa Aiman - Comparative Study

This posting is connected to the earlier posting on the latest book by Najwa Aiman. Before reading the novel AKDD, it would be best to read UKDA first, or as I actually did, simultaneously!! Guess what? I find the UKDA more compelling (and I finished it right away!). Although I can relate more to AKDD, I find it (I have only finished half) so full of coincidence and the stories too unrealistic. UKDA on the other hand, beats around the bush a bit too much, but I guess Najwa Aiman played with the plot (and words) very well, despite irritatingly excessive usage of the word "plastik", which I've never met anyone in real life using it.
I personally find AKDD's numerous poems are rather pointless, and Najwa Aiman's attempt of exploring the characters' feelings and emotions in AKDD is a wee bit to much. He did it well in UKDA, though. However I find it rather hard to swallow that the "background" of all characters in both books are kept secret, except for Shima and Zharif in UKDA, I don't seem to know anybody else in both novels, even the main characters. For instance, if Rizmal and Idayu (in AKDD) had been an item for 5 years, couldn't he had known that she has a sister named Ilyana? Amazing ain't it?
But I must salute Najwa Aiman for his ability to candidly address the issue about openness in the relationships between the yuppies. Yes, they do spend nights at each others' home and they do hang out at those bachelors pads... boyfriends do stay at girlfriends houses/rooms.... hmm.. some might find that rather unreal but face it, it happens!!
For those who do not read Malay novels very much should not try to compare these 2 books to popular English ones but if you try to compare them to Sweet Walley Highs/Sweet Dreams, Najwa Aiman's ability to write is very much commendable. I don't get frustrated with his books like I always do reading Novel Remaja of the same genre. My suggestion is Najwa Aiman should look into "developing" the characters' background as readers need to know these people. Perhaps more thorough research should be done on a few areas as well, for instance, I find it quite curious as to why Azhar needs to do his CLP if he is a local graduate? London External? Can't be!!!
"Bungkam" and "buntang" seem to be the 2 most favourite adjectives for Najwa Aiman and I would suggest limiting them at all costs!!!
All in all, good attempt!! Keep it up!! I am giving UKDA a 3.5 star out of 5 (I actually cried at one point, so that's a plus!) and I will continue reading AKDD but so far it's a 2 star. I hope my feelings will change.

Gaji oh Gaji

Gaji oh Gaji
Bila nak dapat Gaji
Sepurnama telah dilewati
Tapi Gaji masih tiada lagi
Teruknya kampeni takleh bayar Gaji
Harap nama aje gah berdiri
Tapi Gaji staf yang ciput pun takleh beri
Tokey tokey santai kat obersi
Staf takde gaji, apa derang peduli
Sebulan Gaji kuli, makan derang sehari
Apa nak buat, ni la nasib diri
Kalo dah keje dengan PSC!
